Life Imitating Art.

Someone in Florida just used my credit card in a BJ’s..My bank called around 2 hours ago to inform me that there were some questionable charges on my account. Of course, my credit card is here with me in NY sitting in my drawer but obviously it is also in the Sunshine State! Didn’t we just discuss this in class last week??? Unfortunately, My husband and I have been victims of credit card/debit card fraud several times this year. We thought we were cautious about these things but I guess not. The first time was when my wallet was stolen during my Bachelorette party and all my cards were used immediately to purchase gifts cards. Ok fine, those accounts were closed and replaced. Lesson learned..Then came our destination Florida wedding/honeymoon with family and friends and all the free spending that comes with celebrating the happiest time of your life. Well, my husband’s and his cousin’s debit card numbers were used without their authorization during the week. Bummer. Husband gets new card and new card gets hit again last week not too far away from where we live. Scary. Now me…How does this happen?? With the exception of the bachelorette party, all charges were done WITHOUT the actual card!!! My bank told me they are probably getting our card numbers and making fake cards with them. Since 3 of the cards were used at the hotel where we got married, my next step is to contact the Ritz Carlton and inform them that they have a thief who is using/selling this info. It is extremely frustrating to think that you are doing everything you can to protect yourself (my husband never lets his card out of his sight and doesn’t buy online) but worried that someone has access to your most personal information. I am also fighting this deep desire to want to catch this person/people at all costs. I am tired of being stolen from and want closure now!
